I've been experimenting with making Andrew's baby food. It is a great way to cut down on our grocery bill. Especially when you look at the price of baby food these days. Organic baby food is almost $1 a jar. That adds up when you figure he eats the equivalent of 6 jars a day.
For $1.50 I can buy a bag of organic carrots. That make about 10 servings. So much cheaper! And it is a great way to use up our produce that runs the risk of going bad before we can eat it.
I have a Magic Bullet that Iuse to puree the food. Btw, the Magic Bullet is one of my very favorite kitchen gadgets. I got it a couple of years ago to replace my blender and food processor. It is great because it is so small that it makes it convenient to get it out for even the smallest things. I never wanted to get the blender out because it was such a pain to clean.
The Magic Bullet comes with about 6 different cups. That is great for us when I make smoothies for the kids because I can make each of them whatever they want. The MB is great for any kind of food processing, chopping, pureeing, grinding, etc. I love it. I use it all the time!
So now I'm using the MB for pureeing baby food. I was surprised at how easy it is to make the baby food. I just steam the vegetables, put them in the MB with a little water and puree. Then I pour into ice cube trays and freeze. Then I put the frozen cubes in labeled zip lock bags. So when I'm ready to use them, I just grab out a cube of vegetable and fruit and thaw it. Very easy and economical! Plus I feel good that I can give him mostly organic fruits and veggies for a fraction of the cost.
